The advancement in technology has entered into the world of farming and poultry. A smart poultry farm consists of three major components: poultry house, poultry feeder, and smart feeder. The feeder will be able to dispense the required amount of feed at the desired time to the poultry birds, and it is also capable of detecting the level of feed left.

The feeder communicates with the poultry house via a wireless communication system so that the user can monitor the conditions in the poultry house from anywhere. The feeder will be capable of monitoring the health of the poultry birds by using sensors placed at various locations in the poultry house. The feeder dispenses the required amount of feed at the desired time to the poultry birds, and is also capable of detecting the level of feed left.

A custom solution using Kerlink LoRaWAN gateway

WeMakeIoT’s vast experience in handling multiple LoRaWAN devices gives us the expertise to write custom decoders for LoRaWAN devices.

We developed an IoT solution based on the LoRaWAN network for poultry houses. Kerlink gateways were used as the LoRaWAN receiver that receives the data and forwards it to a Kerlink Data server.

We developed a backend system for facilitating device data ingestion into the third party visualisation platform. The sensors monitor the temperature, humidity, air quality, weight and movement of the poultry birds and send this data to a gateway wirelessly via LoRaWAN protocol.

The LoRaWAN gateway publishes the data to the backend endpoint provided by us. The backend helps to decode the encoded device data and transform it to the destination system specifications. This data was visualised in an IoT platform via a web dashboard and a mobile app. The solution supported multiple device types from multiple manufacturers.
