What is IoT?

During our early days as a kid, we have all learnt how to connect the dots in order to conquer a treasure trove. Later that skill of connecting the dots took new shapes such as handwritings, images. The art transcended into connecting and developing relationships such as friendship, love, family. Using the internet we have connected almost everyone on the planet.

Today thanks to technology, this art of connection had taken a new and revolutionary dimension to connecting things. This new advancement is known as the “Internet of things (IoT)

We are all pretty much aware of the Internet; using which we can end up in a conversation with anyone in any part of the world. All the information one needs on a particular subject is available on the internet today.

With the IoT Solutions , we are going to advance into a new level. The potential of internet of things is powerful enough to make nonliving things work sensible enough to give you more time at hand and giving you the power to monitor activities, wherever you are.

How did IoT advance?

The story of IoT began with Kevin Ashton using the term “Internet of things “in his speech. Today because of IoT we have smart rooms that adjust the ambience according to your mood. Smart City is another super product of IoT. Smart cities have developed lights that adjust its brightness based on the weather conditions, garbage management systems, weather and emergency alert systems have developed as a result of Internet of Things. Self-watering farms is also a smart invention that resulted as a result of Internet of Things. Today even emotions can be measured using IoT.

Imagine a sick patient for whom the doctor has prescribed pills which are neatly packed in a pill box. Today this pillbox can be connected to the doctor’s software in order for the doctor to constantly monitor the effect of the pill on the patient and also to check if the patient has consumed his medicine of time.

How is this happening?

These simple things are using connected circuits that are programmed to talk to a software that translates it into a human language. The IoT standards are being defined, people are thinking of ways to connect everything to the system. Protocols are being configured to make systems work in real time. The new languages of Arduino, Zigbee and Xbee are now being developed  in order to develop such projects.

What do you need to know before investing in such applications?

Project Expertise and skill-set are what one should look for if they are investing any IoT application.
